4th of July

Happy 4th of July!
We spent the day with our friends doing paddle boats at Hinckley lake, playing with our cameras, then eating delicious stuffed burgers (I had a spinach, swiss, balsamic burger  . . . amazing. Hamburgers will never be the same) (In fact I was too busy eating my food I forgot to take a picture of our delicious burgers, with english muffin buns) , watching the hot dog eating contest (after eating more food than I thought could possibly fit in my body- good thing we worked out that morning), and lighting fireworks. It was a blast.
Can you tell that it was like 90+ degrees and humid beyond all reason?
We did a pretty good job wiping off the sweat before this pic.

Boyd helped to make ice cream with the rolly ball.
I don't know why he looks so green here. . .

 So. . . .
Ohio has this lame law about not having cool fireworks.
Something about only smokey fireworks (lack of fire) . . . blah blah blah.

Fortunately we spent the day with some really cool people who actually did "real" fireworks.

 It was AWESOME!

Until you realize why these are illegal because they can explode and fly off in different directions!
Exhibit A: The car (above) blew up.
Then (below) the blazing explosives (below, left side of pic) flies off in any direction, causing you to run for dear life! It was SOOO much fun!
This is what the car really does when it is not being dangerous.
You know, in Utah these aren't illegal.

The spinners are some of my favorites.

Shortly after these were taken it started to pour! We ran inside to finish watching the hot dog eating contest and to eat ice cream. My favorite part of the night followed these activities. At 11 something ish we decided to finish the fireworks we never got around to. So while the kids were getting their jammies on, the 4 adults ran outside and we started lighting the rest of the fireworks. When the kiddos came out we watched a few more fountains and did some darts, which are some of the coolest fireworks ever. The fuse is in the middle so you don't know which direction they will fly. Most of the time they fly about 20 ft up into the air, but not always, so we crouched behind patio furniture, ready to duck any minute, and laughed hysterically. The best part was we couldn't stop laughing. This year was definitely on of the most memorable holidays we have had.

p.s. Boyd and I have extra sparklers left over. I'm sure some cool pictures will be posted shortly.
