Happy Halloween 2009!
This year for Halloween Boyd and I were dinosaurs! We had quite the adventure trying to make our costumes. It all began when Boyd brought home dinosaur onesies. We were trying to figure out what we should do about the head part when I had a brilliant idea! Why don't we just go and purchase another one and cut it up to make our dinosaur heads! Then we can use the arms and legs as tails! So we did. We had a hard time trying to figure out how to sew the head parts together and get the right shape, so Boyd laid a hoddie down on the material and cut around the outline of the hoodie. We then took the bottom of the foot part and sewed it to the hoodie cut out. It made me really sad because we looked like alligators! I kept getting frustrated and didn't know what to do about our costumes! Boyd being the brilliant husband he is decided to put a baseball cap under the material to give it shape. This was a great idea, but now we looked like ducks. Once again, Boyd came to my rescue and we cut a tennis ball in half and stuck it in between the baseball cap and the roof of the dinosaur mouth so it looked like we had dinosaur noses!!! Boyd is amazing and super creative! Next came the tails! We decide to go to DI to buy old baseball caps to cut up for our costumes. While we were there we decided to buy a pillow and rip it up to stuff our tails! That night I was trying to hurry and sew on our tails. I had so much to do that night so I wasn't paying attention. It took me about 2 1/2 hours to sew on my tail when I went to try on my costume when I realized that my tail was crooked! Know me, and my need for perfection, I sat there and unpicked the whole tail. Pretty sure I wanted to cry that night. Boyd, once again coming to my rescue, said that he would sew on our tails! I sewed down the 4 major points of the tail to the onesie and Boyd did the rest. I don't know what I would do without him! Overall I think our costumes turned out GREAT! Everyone loved them and thought they were super cool! People were especially amazed that Boyd could actually fit into a onesie! For Halloween we went up to my parents house to pass out candy and carve pumpkins. It was a lot of fun! We secretly brought in our costumes and while my mom wasn't paying attention we changed into them and trick-or-treated at their house. When she opened the door she got a big surprise! We had lots of fun with our costumes this year and hopefully we won't embarrass our children someday!
Halloween Treats!
Every Halloween I have to have root beer. I don't know why, but root beer always makes me think of Halloween. This year Boyd and I decided to put dry ice in root beer! It was a really fun experiment! It was obvious really cool looking, as you can see in the picture, but as time passed the root beer actually turned into a slushy! It was really neat!
We also made Halloween cupcakes a few days before! I think they turned out super cute! Boyd helped me with the cupcakes as well! Boyd keeps telling me that he was a homemaker that week. Lots of sewing and baking! We did spiders, spiderwebs, and pumpkins! Boyd did the chocolate for the spiders by taking the vegetable peeler and shaving the chocolate into curls. He did a wonderful job helping me with the cute Halloween cupcakes!
p.s. Boyd and I won 2nd place in our ward chili cook off. (The only reason why ours didn't win 1st was because it wasn't made in a dutch oven and didn't have cheese and Frito's on the top)- Boyd said that ours tasted WAY better, but we were still happy with 2nd place!
